Lake St. Clair is one of the great
Musky fisheries in North America. On
lakes in other parts of the country, Muskies are known as the fish of 10,000
casts; on Lake St. Clair days of 10 or more happen frequently.
SUMMER
From mid June through early September, days of 10 to 20 fish
in the boat happen regularly. Our best day last season was in late July, When
we landed 28 Muskies, with the largest 48". Our biggest fish for the
year, also caught in late July, measured 51 1/4" and weighed approximately
39 lbs. The huge fish was successfully released. Average weight is generally
in the 10 to 17 lbs. range, with larger fish (some over 25 lbs) caught almost
every trip.
FALL
Although it's possible to catch a really big fish anytime,
most are caught from mid September through late fall. Not as many are caught,
days of 5 to 10 or more are the norm, but more fish over 30 lbs and some approaching
40 lbs. are taken during this time of year. A Muskie with a certified weight
of 40 lbs. 11 oz. was caught last October.
COMBINATION TRIPS - MUSKIES AND SMALL MOUTH BASS
Lake St. Clair is also one of the country's best Small
Mouth
bass lakes. Try a combination trip, one day for Muskies and the next for
Small Mouth, or 1/2 day at each. The largest bass caught by one of our customers
last year was 21". Combination trips are great fun for family days with the
kids.
As
members of the Michigan Ontario Musky Club, when Musky fishing, we practice
catch and release.
